Jenny & Ryan :: Atlantic Station Engagement Photos

Gotta love a bride like Jenny who searches the Internet for “rainy day engagement photos”, just in case.  I’m always a bit concerned about shooting in the rain because it’s a nuisance, and I don’t welcome any distractions such as wind, cold, raindrops, or any other forces of nature that might work against me in my efforts to create images my clients will hopefully love.  However, the elements are just that, and water adds a certain basic-necessity-to-the-circle-of-life characteristic to any set of images.  When I was a undergrad student studying fine art photography at UGA, there was a paper sign taped above the darkroom sink that read: “Water: the stuff of life and photo”.   When Jenny saw her engagement photos, she said the images made her even more excited for the wedding day, now just two short months away!

Marietta Square Engagement Photos :: Jamie & Matt

After so many years (eight!) of shooting weddings and full time, I am surprised that Jamie & Matt are the first couple who suggested their engagement session at Brumby Gardens and around Marietta Square.  Especially since Marietta Square on a weekend afternoon has photographers poking out of the seams like the overstuffed pillows on my sofa that my dogs love for their marathon naps.  As I overheard a nearby photographer call out instructions and praise to her clients, I couldn’t help but hear an echo of my own voice and think that though photographers can sound eerily similar while working, the way we see our clients and portray them is vastly different.  My hope is that my clients will simply look like themselves, caught on a day when they happened to look particularly good.

Renae & Frank :: Payne-Corley House Wedding

It was truly my pleasure to work with Renae and Frank for their wedding at the historic and oh-so-charming Suwanee First United Methodist Church, with reception following at the equally historic and charming Payne-Corley House.  I know one of Renae’s favorite photos is the image depicting the open church door with a view of the ceremony taking place inside, and this photo is a great example of how I work. It’s not a pre-planned image, I only realized I could take the photo as I was backing up during the ceremony for a new angle and since the sanctuary was so small, I took a few more backward steps and found myself outside! So for me, moving rather than thinking often leads to the best possible image of a given moment.  While I do sometimes attend the final planning-walk through, I gain more logistical knowledge than inspiration from these meetings. Being in the moment is always my best inspiration.

Krissy & Mike :: Montaluce Wedding

Another gorgeous, flawless celebration at Montaluce, this time for Krissy and Mike!  It is hard to take a bad picture of these two, especially in the classic setting of old-world ease that Montaluce exudes. Although details, environment, and lighting are all significant factors in a story successfully told through images, to me the paramount elements are the people and their emotions.  For that reason, I love that Krissy and Mike are unrestrained in showing their happiness together and with their loved ones.
